Thousands unable to make calls as EE and BT networks down

An outage has hit the EE and BT mobile phone networks, leaving thousands of customers unable to make or receive calls. According to the outages tracker Downdetector, over 2,500 EE customers were affected at 1400 BST, with reports of issues on other networks as well. However, Vodafone and Three have confirmed that they are not experiencing any network problems.

A spokesperson from BT, which owns EE, issued an apology and stated that they are actively working to address the issue impacting their services. “We’re working urgently to fix this issue and will provide a further update as soon as possible,” they said. Downdetector has seen a surge in reports of outages on various networks, likely due to customers unable to connect to EE or BT phone numbers.

Social media has been abuzz with complaints from users regarding the loss of services on both EE and BT mobile and landline networks. With over 30 million customers in the UK, BT Group reported a revenue of £20.4bn in the last financial year. The outage may have also affected customers of mobile phone operators that rely on EE’s network, such as 1pMobile, which acknowledged issues impacting a small number of customers and assured that EE network engineers are working on resolving the problem.

At the moment, there has been no comment from Lyca Mobile and Spusu regarding the outage. It remains to be seen how quickly EE and BT can resolve the issue and restore normal service to their customers
