UK heatwave to peak on Saturday with temperatures above 30C

A significant heatwave is set to hit the UK, with temperatures expected to soar over 30C in various parts of the country on Saturday. As the third heatwave of the year, the Midlands and south Wales are projected to experience the hottest temperatures. Additionally, Scotland and Northern Ireland are anticipated to see their warmest days of the year so far, with highs of 31C and 29.5C respectively.

Friday’s temperatures reached a high of 34.7C in Astwood Bank in the West Midlands, while Cardiff’s Bute Park in Wales recorded its hottest day of the year at 32.4C. Amber heat health alerts remain in effect for parts of England, and wildfire warnings have been issued for Scotland and Northern Ireland for Saturday and Sunday.

Temperatures on Saturday are forecasted to range from the high 20s to low 30s in England and Wales, with slightly cooler temperatures in eastern parts of England due to an easterly breeze. Meanwhile, Sunday will see a slight decrease in temperatures, yet the heat will persist. Wimbledon’s Centre Court reached a scorching 32C on Friday, with similar temperatures anticipated for the final rounds on Saturday.

Organizers of Wimbledon have implemented a heat rule for all singles matches due to the historical heat the event is facing this year. The severity of the heatwave has also prompted fire chiefs to warn of the increased risk of drowning and wildfires in hot and dry conditions. National Rail has cautioned commuters of potential travel disruptions, and hosepipe bans have been imposed on over seven million people in England and Wales. The heatwave is expected to dissipate by Monday as cooler Atlantic air moves in, bringing cloud cover and showers to certain areas.
