A tragic incident unfolded in Pembrokeshire as a teenager, Jack Hale, crashed his car into a campsite shortly after passing his driving test, injuring several people in the process. Hale, 19, from Simpsons Cross in Haverfordwest, had pleaded guilty to four counts of causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Haverfordwest Magistrates Court. As a result, he was given a 20-month sentence in a young offenders’ institution, suspended for 18 months, and was also banned from driving. Additionally, he must complete 250 hours of unpaid work.
The crash occurred on 12 August 2023 in Newgale, Pembrokeshire, resulting in injuries to several individuals who were taken to the hospital. Hale was behind the wheel of a Ford Fiesta with five passengers at the time of the incident. CCTV footage presented in Swansea Crown Court showed the vehicle flipping multiple times before ultimately landing on tents in the campsite. Miraculously, a baby in a cot and a two-year-old child in tents escaped serious injury.
Witnesses described the chilling moment when they heard a loud screech and saw the car careening into the campsite, pinning down some individuals. The victims, including Paul Warburton, Emma Lewis, and Daniel Staniforth, sustained severe injuries necessitating medical attention and surgeries. Their impact statements highlighted the lasting trauma and consequences of the crash on their daily lives. Despite being commended as a well-regarded young man, Hale was admonished by Judge Huw Rees for his reckless driving behavior, emphasizing the need for an extended driving test before he can operate a vehicle again.
