Chris Brown pleads not guilty to more assault charges

Entertainment reporter Steven McIntosh reports that US singer Chris Brown has entered a not guilty plea in court regarding charges stemming from an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub two years ago. The 36-year-old star is accused of causing actual bodily harm to a music producer in what prosecutors have labeled as an “unprovoked” incident. Additionally, Brown faces a charge of possessing an offensive weapon – specifically a tequila bottle. These new charges were added to a more severe count of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm, to which Brown had already pleaded not guilty. The singer’s trial is set to take place in October 2026.

During the recent plea hearing at Southwark Crown Court in London, Brown made an appearance wearing a brown suit and dark rimmed glasses. As he arrived, he gave a brief wave and was met with supportive fans in the gallery who expressed their love for him. The alleged victim, Abraham Diaw, was reportedly struck by Brown with a bottle while at Soho’s Tape nightclub on 19 February 2023. Brown was later arrested at a hotel in Greater Manchester and subsequently released on bail after paying a £5m security fee to the court.

As part of his bail conditions, Brown must stay at an address in the UK while awaiting trial and has surrendered his passport to the police. Despite these restrictions, he is permitted to fulfill his commitments to his ongoing Breezy Bowl XX world tour by temporarily retrieving his passport as needed for travel. The singer has been performing at various venues in the UK and Europe, with plans to continue in North America later this month. The next court hearing is scheduled for 24 October.

Chris Brown, known for his success in US R&B with two Grammy Awards and multiple hit singles, is joined by co-defendant Omololu Akinlolu, also known as HoodyBaby, who has pleaded not guilty to causing actual bodily harm. Akinlolu had previously entered a not guilty plea to the charge of attempted grievous bodily harm
