M60 shut near Stockport for second day after eight-vehicle crash

The M60 motorway is facing extended closures after an eight-vehicle collision that occurred recently. The incident involved three lorries, two cars, and a van, resulting in significant damage and debris on the road. The crash took place between junction 25 for the Bredbury Interchange and junction 1 for the Pyramid Roundabout in Stockport.

One of the lorries involved in the collision crashed through the central reservation, hitting several lamp posts, while another lorry shed its load of beer barrels. The National Highways reported that recovery work for the damaged vehicles was completed by 09:00, allowing trapped road users to move. The motorway closure was expected to last until 10:00 for resurfacing work.

Diversions are in place for drivers, and it is advised to plan ahead for alternative routes. The clockwise section of the motorway is anticipated to have two lanes reopened first, with one lane remaining closed for further repairs. The anti-clockwise closure is expected to last until lunchtime for necessary repairs.

The crash not only caused damage to the central reservation and spilled beer barrels but also resulted in ruptured fuel tanks and diesel spillage on the carriageway. Three individuals were transported to the hospital for treatment, while six others were evaluated for minor injuries. Additionally, two other collisions on the M62 earlier in the day also contributed to delays in the area
