A search and rescue operation in Blackpool led to four coastguard crew members sustaining injuries while battling harsh weather conditions and powerful waves in an effort to locate a person in the sea. The incident occurred near Central Pier in Blackpool during the early hours of Friday morning when a person was observed struggling 30m (98 ft) out at sea. Unfortunately, due to the challenging conditions, one crew member fell into the helmsman causing injury, forcing the boat to abandon the rescue mission.

A helicopter remained on standby during the extensive operation as HM Coastguard Fleetwood and Lytham crews continued their search efforts. The rescuers’ perseverance and teamwork during the challenging rescue mission exemplified their dedication to their duty, as they navigated through treacherous conditions to ensure the safety of the individual in distress.
HM Coastguard Fleetwood commended the rescuers for their courageous efforts, highlighting the inspiration and strength drawn from each other during the operation.
