A disruption caused by a police incident on the M1 in Hertfordshire has impacted morning commuters as the M25 was also closed as a result. Hertfordshire Police took the decision to shut down the M1 northbound, between junctions 6 and 6A, at around 05:15 BST. Subsequently, the M25 around junction 21A was also closed to traffic.
Following the closures, traffic was redirected onto the A405 North Orbital Road and other surrounding routes to manage the flow of vehicles. Despite the measures taken, there was widespread disruption in the area as commuters faced delays and queued traffic along the motorways.
Hertfordshire Police informed the public via X at 06:45 that the roads had been reopened; however, the delays persisted in the region even after the reopening.
