Liverpool City Council has enlisted the services of Waste Investigations Support and Enforcement (WISE) to combat environmental crimes in the city. Scheduled to commence operations across all areas of Liverpool this summer, WISE will play a vital role in tackling issues such as fly-tipping, littering, and dog fouling. Following the approval of a three-year contract by members at a recent Cabinet meeting, the company has been officially named as the external enforcement team.
In response to the illegal activities of littering, dog fouling, and fly-tipping, the Council has taken steps to ramp up enforcement efforts. Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) will be issued to offenders, with penalties now increased to £150 for littering, £100 for dog fouling, and tiered penalties starting at £500 for fly-tipping. This move is part of the Council’s commitment to address environmental crimes and promote responsible waste disposal practices.
With an investment of approximately £950,000, the internal environmental enforcement team has already made significant strides in issuing FPNs and written warnings, engaging with residents and businesses, and reducing incidents of fly-tipping and street cleaning requests. The Council aims to continue this positive momentum with the support of WISE, which has a proven track record of delivering environmental enforcement services across the UK.
