Presenting the latest weather update, following a scorching start to July and record-breaking June temperatures across England, it appears that the heatwave conditions are set to ease in the coming days. After London’s St James’s Park recorded a temperature of 34.7C (94.4F) on Tuesday, marking the hottest day of the year so far, a cooler outlook is now expected.
The current temperatures are already more comfortable, with some areas experiencing a decrease of over 10C compared to earlier this week. While short-lived spells of hot weather are anticipated over the next 10 days, meteorologists do not forecast a return to heatwave conditions in the first half of July.
Wednesday’s temperatures are predicted to range between 16C to 26C from north to south, with a cooler and fresher night ahead. Throughout the next week, Scotland and Northern Ireland are likely to see temperatures in the mid to high teens, while England and Wales can expect temperatures in the low to mid-20s. The warmest day is expected to be Friday, with temperatures potentially reaching 27C or 28C in the far south-east.
In light of the driest spring on record and a dry start to summer, rainfall is expected over the next five days, mainly in the north-west of the British Isles. Some areas, such as Yorkshire and North-west England, are already experiencing drought conditions, with low water levels observed in Eastern Scotland and parts of Wales. Showers are anticipated in Scotland and Northern Ireland on Thursday and Friday, with unsettled conditions and unpredictable showers across the UK during the weekend.
This week marked the second UK heatwave of 2025, lasting six days for parts of Yorkshire and the Humber, and five days for those in central and eastern England. Scientists attribute the increasing frequency and intensity of heatwaves to climate change, with high temperatures becoming more common in the UK due to the impact of rising global temperatures
