Dog rescued from Perth tenement two weeks after blaze

In a heartwarming tale of survival, a chihuahua named Vilo was rescued from a building that had been destroyed by fire in Perth. The tenement fire took place on 14 June, and Vilo was feared to have perished in the blaze. However, hope was reignited when she was spotted in the window of the building by observant residents in the area.

After nearly two weeks of enduring the aftermath of the fire, Vilo was finally coaxed out of the building. The clever pup had managed to create a safe space for herself in a wardrobe, away from the chaos of the demolition work. She was enticed by the scent of her owner’s belongings and emerged from her hiding spot on 27 June, where she was met with relief and joy by her family.

Despite the tragic events that unfolded during the fire, Vilo’s rescue provided a glimmer of hope for the community. Katie McCandless from the charity, Missing Pets Perth and Kinross, described Vilo as a “miracle dog” as she was found to be unscathed by the ordeal. The emotional reunion between Vilo and her family brought solace and happiness amidst the devastation caused by the fire.

The Deputy Leader of the Perth and Kinross Council, Councillor Eric Drysdale, highlighted the remarkable rescue as a symbol of the compassion and generosity displayed by individuals in the wake of the tragedy. The act of saving Vilo not only brought joy to her family but also served as a beacon of light in a dark time of loss and destruction for the community
