This week in Liverpool, more than 1,600 leaders and decision makers are coming together for the Local Government Association’s (LGA) Annual Conference, marking the first time the city has hosted this event. The three-day conference at ACC Liverpool will feature over 400 speakers participating in around 100 events, with additional fringe events happening throughout the city.
The conference serves as an opportunity for the city region to showcase its recent developments, innovations, and leadership to top levels of local government. UK Ministers will also be present to join the discussions as Liverpool solidifies its position as one of the UK’s key event capitals. Recently, Liverpool surpassed cities like Manchester, Belfast, and Cambridge to become the fourth most successful in the UK at attracting major international conferences.
Taking place just after the Government’s Comprehensive Spending Review, this year’s LGA Annual Conference will tackle important policy priorities such as the upcoming NHS 10-year plan, Special Education Needs and Disabilities (SEND) reform, housing, social care for adults and children, as well as devolution and local government reorganization. Liverpool City Council Leader, Cllr Liam Robinson, along with other council leaders and directors, will be sharing insights on various topics including devolution, innovation zones, AI, North Liverpool regeneration, affordable housing, and public service innovation.
Reflecting on the significance of hosting the conference, Cllr Liam Robinson highlighted the opportunity to engage with peers on discussions related to government reviews and increased devolution benefits. Mayor Steve Rotheram emphasized the importance of showcasing how devolution can make a real difference in communities and expressed pride in the region’s commitment to delivering and leading the way in improving local government for its citizens
