The conclusion of the Liverpool FC title parade crash incident has now seen the discharge of the final patient who was receiving hospital treatment. The devastating incident occurred when a car collided with a crowd near the end of the Reds’ Premier League victory parade in Liverpool city center on 26 May, resulting in over 100 injuries. Among those injured, fifty individuals were taken to hospital following the crash on Water Street. It has been confirmed by the authorities that all those who required NHS care have now been discharged and allowed to return home.
During an address to a scrutiny panel earlier this month, Chief Constable Serena Kennedy acknowledged the exceptional efforts of the officers who responded to the scene on 26 May. She commended their outstanding work and highlighted the dedication of those who were injured while fulfilling their duty to protect the public. Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner, Emily Spurrell, also expressed her admiration for the officers’ efforts, describing the incident on Water Street as deeply distressing following a weekend of successful events.
Paul Doyle, residing on Burghill Road in West Derby, has subsequently been charged with a range of alleged offenses related to the crash incident. The 53-year-old faces accusations of wounding with intent, inflicting grievous bodily harm, attempting to inflict grievous bodily harm, and dangerous driving. A trial date has been set for 24 November, with a plea hearing scheduled for 14 August, expected to last between three to four weeks
