Three British teenagers are set to make history at Wimbledon this year, marking the first time in the tournament’s history that three players aged 17 and under will compete in the women’s singles draw. Mika Stojsavljevic, Hannah Klugman, and Mimi Xu have been awarded main-draw wildcards for the event after showcasing their talent and potential over recent years. Stojsavljevic, who is 16 years old, secured an impressive victory by winning the US Open girls’ title last year.

Klugman, also 16, achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first Briton in nearly five decades to reach the girls’ final at the French Open last month. On the other hand, 17-year-old Xu, who is ranked just outside the top 300 globally, has already defeated two top-100 opponents on grass this year. Following the completion of their academic exams, the trio is now focused on their senior Wimbledon debuts.

Stojsavljevic, known for her powerful serves and clean ball-striking, has been trained at the LTA’s National Academy in Loughborough while studying for her GCSEs. Klugman, who opted to stay at home in Wimbledon and work with coach Ben Haran at Reed’s School, experienced success by winning the Orange Bowl junior championships in 2023. Xu, the most experienced at the senior level, has climbed to 302nd in the world and works with Nigel Sears and Katie O’Brien.

Their participation in Wimbledon signifies a significant milestone in their careers, with each player earning a spot after a meeting between the LTA and the All England Club to determine wildcards. Bates, the LTA’s head of women’s tennis, expressed confidence in their readiness for the tournament, emphasizing the importance of the opportunity to compete against some of the world’s best players. This year’s Wimbledon is seen as a crucial step in their professional development and progression in the tennis world
