Stephen McCormick, a widower from County Down, spoke out about the late and terminal diagnosis his wife, Julie, received due to a lack of awareness among health professionals regarding symptoms of ovarian cancer. Despite suffering from stage 3 ovarian cancer, Julie’s symptoms were not immediately linked to the disease, leading to a delay in diagnosis. He voiced his disappointment with the lack of political will and funding to prioritize ovarian cancer on the government’s agenda, advocating for a widespread awareness campaign through billboards, radio, and television to educate the public about the importance of early detection.

Dr. Damien Bennett, director of the NI Cancer Registry, emphasized the importance of recognizing symptoms early to facilitate timely diagnosis and improve outcomes for women affected by ovarian cancer
