Two charged with historical child sex offences at Abergavenny centre

Two individuals have been accused of committing numerous historical sexual offences against children at a past assessment center. Gwent Police has been actively looking into reports of sexual and physical abuse, with a focus on the former Coed Glas Assessment Center in Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, during the period spanning from the 1970s to the 1990s. The two suspects, aged 65 and 69, were taken into custody on 20 June and have collectively been charged with a total of 45 offences.

Following their arrests, both men have been released on bail and are slated to make an appearance at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 3 July. The 69-year-old, hailing from Rhondda Cynon Taf, is facing 38 charges, which encompass offenses such as indecent assault on a minor under 16 years old and attempted indecent assault on another under-16-year-old individual. Furthermore, there are 14 counts of indecent assault against a boy under the age of 14, along with a string of 20 charges related to maltreatment and neglect of a child or young person.

On the other hand, the 65-year-old from Blaenau Gwent has been formally accused of committing seven counts of indecent assault on a male under the age of 14, with the offenses involving a total of 16 victims. The assessment center, which was under the purview of the former Gwent County Council during that time, ceased operations in 1995. Detective Chief Superintendent Andrew Tuck of Gwent Police has urged the community to uphold the integrity of the legal proceedings and abstain from partaking in unwarranted speculation about the case
