A tragic incident that occurred twelve years ago has led to the death of a man who was left paralysed and brain-damaged. Julian Cole, aged 31, passed away on March 7, 2025, after living in a “minimally conscious state” since the altercation that took place outside a nightclub in Bedford back in May 2013. The three Bedfordshire Police officers involved in the incident were dismissed in 2018 after being found guilty of misconduct for lying about what occurred that fateful night.

The police officers involved in the incident initially claimed that he was able to walk and get into the police van on his own, but CCTV footage revealed otherwise. Julian Cole’s family will now await the results of an investigation by the North London Coroner into the circumstances surrounding his untimely death.

His passing at Northwick Park Hospital marks the end of a long and tragic journey for his family, who stood by his side throughout his ordeal. Despite the settlement reached with the police, the lack of accountability for the actions that led to his injuries remains a haunting question for his loved ones
