Former Northamptonshire police chief 'nearly derailed case'

The advocate for the family of the late Harry Dunn, a teenager who tragically lost his life in a crash, has spoken out against the actions of a former chief constable. According to an investigative review, Nick Adderley, who was subsequently dismissed for falsifying information about his professional background, inaccurately discussed the diplomatic immunity status of the woman responsible for Mr. Dunn’s death. The report also noted Mr. Adderley’s critical remarks about the family spokesperson, Radd Seiger, during a press briefing.

Mr. Seiger expressed his belief that the former chief constable’s behavior had nearly obstructed the pursuit of justice for Mr. Dunn. Consequently, he has lodged a formal complaint regarding Mr. Adderley’s behavior with the police, fire, and crime commissioner of Northamptonshire. The tragic incident that resulted in Mr. Dunn’s passing occurred in August 2019 near RAF Croughton when his motorcycle was struck by a car traveling on the wrong side of the road.

The driver, Anne Sacoolas, departed the UK under diplomatic immunity, but was eventually handed a suspended prison sentence for causing death by careless driving. Mr. Seiger, who resides in the same neighborhood as Mr. Dunn’s family in Charlton, Northamptonshire, assumed the role of spokesperson for the grieving family. An examination into the case, undertaken by a former senior police officer, determined that Mr. Adderley’s actions had caused various issues relating to family liaison. Specifically, he accused Mr. Seiger of making incorrect statements regarding adherence to the victim’s code and advised him to use caution when discussing the case.

Moreover, the review highlighted a tweet by Mr. Adderley in response to reports that the Dunn family was contemplating legal action against Donald Trump’s administration. Mr. Seiger condemned the former chief constable’s conduct and emphasized the importance of accountability within the police force. He praised the current Chief Constable and his deputy for their handling of the case, stating his belief that the Northamptonshire force is now on the right path. A formal complaint has been filed in order to petition for a transparent investigation into Mr. Adderley’s actions, ensuring that both the family and the public receive the answers they deserve.Attempts to reach Mr. Adderley for comment have thus far been unsuccessful
