Suffolk MP Patrick Spencer pleads not guilty to sexual assault

Member of Parliament Patrick Spencer has entered a plea of not guilty to two counts of sexual assault that are said to have occurred at London’s Groucho Club. The Central Suffolk and North Ipswich MP is facing accusations of assaulting two women on the same day in August 2023, before he was elected to office. Spencer, who took office as a Conservative MP during the 2024 general election, made his appearance at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

During the court session, the 37-year-old Mr. Spencer was required to confirm his full name as Michael Patrick Spencer as well as his date of birth. District Judge Paul Goldspring informed the MP, whose listed address was in Suffolk, that he was free on unconditional bail. The charges against Spencer were initially filed back in May and were authorized by Frank Ferguson, the head of the special crime and counter-terrorism division at the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

The forthcoming steps in this case will take place during a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for July 14 at Southwark Crown Court. The charges against Spencer stem from alleged incidents involving two different women at the renowned Groucho Club in central London in August 2023.
