Tributes paid in Leicester for couple killed in Air India crash

Hardik Avaiya and Vibhooti Patel, a newly engaged couple who traveled to India to celebrate their engagement, are among the victims of the tragic Air India plane crash that claimed the lives of over 240 individuals. The Boeing 787 aircraft was en route to Gatwick when it crashed shortly after departing from Ahmedabad.

In Leicester, prayers are being held at the Shree Hanuman Temple to honor the memory of the victims, including Avaiya and Patel. Friends of the couple have been mourning their loss, with one friend expressing, “Hardik was like my small brother, and Vibhooti was like my small sister.”

The ill-fated flight was carrying a total of 242 passengers, consisting of 169 Indian nationals, 53 Britons, seven Portuguese nationals, and one Canadian. The Leicester temple organized a hymn festival to pray for all the victims and to come to grips with the tragedy.

According to friends of the couple, Patel worked as a physiotherapist, while Avaiya was employed in a warehouse. Described as a “model devotee and volunteer” by the temple’s secretary, Avaiya was known for his selfless service and dedication. The community at the temple was deeply saddened by the news of the crash, and the loss of Avaiya felt like losing a family member, leaving many feeling helpless and distraught
