Speaking about his disappointment with the situation, he remarks that the area has suffered from neglect and lack of investment by authorities, especially when it comes to issues such as child poverty.

Despite the challenges facing the region, Sting has decided to give back by making a substantial donation to the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. The institution, often compared to the Tate Modern of the North East, will benefit from Sting’s undisclosed contribution.
