Louise Parry and Justin Dealey reported from Hertfordshire for BBC News about the McKay family’s recent decision to offer a £1m reward for information that could lead to the discovery of Muriel McKay’s remains. Muriel McKay was kidnapped and murdered 56 years ago, and her body has never been found since the tragic event in 1969. Inspired by the movie Ransom, Mrs. McKay’s grandson, Mark Dyer, shared the family’s hope that the substantial reward could potentially provide a new path towards solving the mystery of her disappearance.
The £1m reward, contributed by a generous benefactor, will only be granted if finding Muriel does not involve any illegal activities. Despite recognizing that it is a long shot, Mr. Dyer highlighted the significance of this initiative after over five decades of relentless efforts to locate Muriel McKay. The Met Police conducted a third dig in 2024 but were unable to uncover any human remains, raising skepticism about the accuracy of the information provided.
Mr. Dyer shared that the family, particularly Muriel’s daughter, Dianne, found the idea of offering the same payment demanded in ransom through the Ransom movie inspiring. The reward is intended for anyone who can guide the family towards locating Muriel’s remains, stirring hope for closure and peace after enduring 55 years of uncertainty. Those with potential
