Liverpool City Council has reintroduced the 24 Magic Months app, an award-winning tool designed to assist parents and caregivers in supporting early child development. This updated version has been enhanced with new content and features, making it simpler for parents to nurture their children during these crucial formative years. Research shows that the first two years of a child’s life are instrumental in shaping various life outcomes, such as cognitive development, emotional regulation, and social skills, as well as establishing healthy habits for the future.
Parenting during this critical period can be overwhelming for many parents as they adjust to life with a new baby. The 24 Magic Months app aims to alleviate this stress by providing personalized guidance to help parents maximize the moments they have with their children. The app offers advice on topics like breastfeeding, healthy living, and parent-infant mental health and relationships. It includes tips on setting a good example for children’s health and wellbeing, strengthening bonds through everyday interactions, and supporting a baby’s brain development through presence and eye contact.
Key features of the app include a personalized profile that adjusts based on the child’s age, a milestone tracker to monitor and celebrate baby developments, videos and advice from local health professionals and parents, bite-sized articles with simple activities, health advice for adults, and access to a Liverpool service directory for additional support. The app is available for free download on Google Play and the App Store. In addition to the digital resources, physical materials are being distributed to local nurseries and children’s centers to further support families, with materials available in multiple languages.
