'Hit-and-run' murder charges in Sheffield after boy, 16, dies

A tragic incident unfolded in Sheffield as two men were charged with murder and three counts of attempted murder following an alleged hit-and-run that resulted in the death of a 16-year-old boy. Zulkernain Ahmed, 20, and Amaan Ahmed, 26, both residents of Locke Drive in Sheffield, were accused in connection with the death of Abdullah Yaser Abdullah Al Yazidi, 16, according to South Yorkshire Police. The victim was struck by a car while walking along Staniforth Road in the Darnall area of Sheffield, after the vehicle first collided with a rider on an electric bike.

Tragically, the teenager succumbed to his injuries in the hospital. Another 18-year-old individual, who was riding the electric bike during the incident, sustained serious injuries, although they are not believed to be life-threatening, and remains hospitalized, as per police reports. The two suspects are set to make an appearance at Sheffield Magistrates’ Court, while a man, 46, and a woman, 45, who were taken into custody on suspicion of assisting an offender are currently out on bail.

Abdullah, who had only recently arrived in the UK from Yemen in pursuit of a brighter future, had been eagerly anticipating commencing college in September after actively engaging in English language studies. Described by relatives as a caring and dedicated individual who brought joy to his family with his infectious smile, Abdullah had visited a local shop before the tragic incident occurred. Saleh Alsirkal, a family member who operates the store, recounted Abdullah’s enthusiasm for learning English and his aspirations for a promising future in the UK.

In the wake of the heartbreaking loss, the community mourned the death of Abdullah, recognizing him as a well-respected and compassionate individual. Darnall independent councillor Qais Al-Ahdal expressed deep sorrow at the loss, lauding Abdullah’s positive impact on the community and emphasizing his kind-hearted nature.
