Zia Yusuf returning to Reform UK two days after quitting

After stepping down as Reform UK chairman, Zia Yusuf is prepared to resume his work with the party in a different capacity. Yusuf is set to head the party’s “Doge team”, inspired by the Department of Government Efficiency established by former US President Donald Trump. Following his recent departure from the party, Yusuf did not provide much detail but stated that working to secure its success was no longer a worthwhile endeavor.

Nigel Farage, the leader of Reform UK, disclosed to the BBC that Yusuf will now have a more prominent role within the party, making more frequent appearances in the media. Farage mentioned that Yusuf regrets his previous comments and actions, attributing them to fatigue after months of strenuous effort. Yusuf acknowledged the outpouring of support urging him to reconsider his decision to leave and elaborated on his reasons for stepping down.

In a post shared on an undisclosed platform, Yusuf clarified that his tweet announcing his departure was a result of burnout after dedicating nearly a year to building the party from scratch without a break. He expressed his firm belief in Nigel Farage’s leadership and core principles, emphasizing his continued commitment to these values. Prior to his resignation, Yusuf had criticized party member Sarah Pochin for her controversial remarks advocating for a burka ban during a recent by-election.

Farage highlighted that Yusuf, who faces heightened racial abuse online when Islam is the topic of discussion, has recognized the malicious intent behind much of this harassment. Despite facing attacks from various sources, including bots and extremist groups, Yusuf is eager to contribute further to Reform UK’s goals. Having previously been affiliated with the Conservative Party, Yusuf assumed the role of chairman for Reform shortly after the general election last year, playing a pivotal role in the party’s activities. The party has also announced the establishment of the Doge UK team, tasked with pinpointing areas for budget cuts in councils under Reform’s jurisdiction, alongside forthcoming leadership changes to broaden the party’s management framework
