Susie, the adventurous cat who has captured the hearts of the locals in Dorchester, Dorset, is now requesting residents not to accommodate her in their homes overnight. Despite being adored across town, Susie has a loving home, and her owner, Jenny Graves, is reminding people to let her return to her family at the end of her daily escapades. To avoid any confusion, Susie wears a tag that reads “Susie – Not lost, just adventurous.”
A book chronicling Susie’s escapades has been released due to her widespread popularity in the area. Her daily adventures have sparked concern among well-meaning citizens who would often call her owners, fearing she was lost. In response to Susie being discovered away from home overnight, Graves is appealing to individuals to uphold some basic courtesies, such as refraining from feeding her or housing her overnight so she can return home promptly.
Susie has built quite a following with over 9,500 members on her dedicated Facebook page and is even featured on postcards promoting Dorchester. Since relocating to the town in 2023, Susie has comfortably settled in and is known to frequent more than 30 shops in the area. Graves acknowledges the delicate balance between Susie’s wanderlust and ensuring her safety, with the Facebook page’s administration team working diligently to maintain that equilibrium. Susie’s penchant for explorations seems to be a part of her nature, as Graves notes, “Susie is, and I suspect always will be, a wanderer.”
In addition to her daily visits to various locales, Susie has recently been caught napping at a first aid course in a hotel and making stops at a department store, a barbershop, and even the local cinema. To monitor her whereabouts, Susie is equipped with a tracker on her collar, allowing Graves to keep a close eye on her movements. By encouraging people to return Susie home by 21:00 each night, Graves aims to ensure that Susie recognizes her true residence and feels secure knowing where to turn to in times of distress. Ultimately, Graves hopes that others will remember that Susie is a cherished family pet above all else
