The Metropolitan Police announced that a fourth individual, who remains unnamed, has been released on bail in connection with a series of fires linked to Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The 48-year-old was apprehended at London’s Stansted Airport on Monday after being stopped by officers under the Terrorism Act 2000. Subsequently, he was arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life. Following the investigation, on Wednesday, the Met Police confirmed that he had been released on bail until a future date in July.
So far, three men have been charged in relation to three separate incidents involving fires. These incidents include a vehicle fire in Kentish Town, north London, a fire at the prime minister’s former private residence on the same street, and another fire at a property where he had previously resided in Islington, north London. Ukrainian nationals Petro Pochynok, 34, and Roman Lavrynovych, 21, along with Ukrainian-born Romanian national Stanislav Carpiuc, 26, are scheduled to appear at the Old Bailey on Friday. Mr. Lavrynovych, hailing from Sydenham, is facing three charges of arson with intent to endanger life. On the other hand, Mr. Carpiuc of Romford and Mr. Pochynok of north London are charged with conspiracy to commit arson with intent to endanger life.
One of the incidents occurred in the early hours of 12 May at the residence where Sir Keir Starmer used to live before assuming the role of prime minister at Downing Street. Preceding this event, a car was set ablaze on the same street on 8 May. Furthermore, another fire was reported on 11 May at the entrance of a house that had been converted into flats in Islington.
