Daniel Anjorin was tragically killed in a string of sword attacks in east London as he was leaving his home to go to school. Marcus Monzo, 37, is the accused murderer who allegedly had a clear intent to kill, as a jury heard. The incident took place on April 30th last year at 07:00 BST in Hainault, where Daniel was fatally injured.
During the 20-minute ordeal, the defendant also targeted five other individuals, all of whom sustained severe injuries. Denying a total of eight charges, including four counts of attempted murder, Monzo’s trial began at the Old Bailey. The jury was informed that Daniel suffered a fatal injury to his face.
According to the prosecution, Monzo’s motive was to kill indiscriminately, regardless of the victims’ identities or ages. Daniel, a 14-year-old boy, was simply walking to school when Monzo fatally attacked him. The prosecutor emphasized that Daniel’s life was abruptly ended, preventing him from reaching his destination safely.
Monzo’s violent spree extended to breaking into a couple’s home as they slept with their young daughter. Branded as a machete-wielding assailant, Monzo invoked disturbing and religious themes in his actions. The courtroom saw footage of police officers engaging with Monzo as he brandished a sword, displaying erratic behavior akin to a psychotic episode.
