A recent report from Buckingham Palace has unveiled that King Charles III was gifted a luxurious Rolls-Royce during his coronation. The official register details the gifts received by members of the Royal Family between 2020 to 2023. The prestigious Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II motor car was presented by the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa, with an estimated value of at least £300,000. It is specified that the vehicle will be strictly utilized for official events and not for personal use.
Among the array of gifts listed, alongside the Rolls-Royce, was a feather crown from Amazonian Indigenous leaders, two gold Blue Peter badges, and an elegant tea set from Smythson of Bond Street. Just before his coronation in April 2023, King Charles III was honored with two gold Blue Peter badges, one for himself and one for Camilla. The badges were bestowed to them in recognition of their environmental efforts, support for youth initiatives through the King’s Trust (formerly the Prince’s Trust), and their advocacy for early literacy and reading. Additionally, the Bahraini king gifted Charles a decorative clock for the coronation ceremony.
Furthermore, former President of the United States, Joe Biden, contributed to the King’s collection with a leather folder containing printed correspondence between Queen Elizabeth II and President Dwight Eisenhower, alongside a photograph of their visit to the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth II received two lamp-posts in the form of bronze heraldic beasts sculptures from the Houses of Parliament and a Cedar of Lebanon tree from Pope Francis in honor of her Platinum Jubilee.
Official gifts are not classified as personal possessions for the royals, and they are not subjected to taxation. Furthermore, these gifts cannot be sold or exchanged, barring perishable gifts valued below £150, which can be directed to charity or staff. Ultimately, all official gifts become a part of the Royal Collection, preserved in trust for future royal successors and the nation at large.
