Two identical twin brothers are bidding farewell to their firefighting careers after dedicating a combined 68 years to on-call duty. Dave and Paul Minall received certificates from chief fire officer Neil Odin at Whitchurch Fire Station in Hampshire, where Dave has been serving as a crew manager since May 1990. Paul joined the station two years later, overcoming initial challenges due to height requirements.
Throughout their illustrious firefighting careers, the Minall brothers also held long-time positions at a nearby Portals Paper Mill, balancing their duties between the papermaking company and responding to call-outs at Overton Fire Station. Dave made headlines years ago when he was stopped by police for speeding down a hill on his bicycle to respond to an incident at the fire station. Paul fondly recalls a time when a local restaurant mistook him for his twin brother and denied him a meal during a long incident.
Reflecting on their time as on-call firefighters, Paul expressed gratitude for the camaraderie at Whitchurch Fire Station, noting that the crew became a second family and supported him through tough times. Watch manager Rich Scarth praised the Minall twins for their dedication and commitment to serving the community, emphasizing the balance they maintained between personal and work responsibilities over the years.
