In a disturbing incident in Edinburgh city centre, a 15-year-old girl was raped by a masked man who lured her from a bus stop in the early hours of the morning. The incident took place on Princes Street, outside Marks and Spencer, at around 5:00 am on a Sunday. Detective Inspector Mhairi Cooper emphasized that the assault took place in broad daylight in a bustling commercial area and appealed to potential witnesses to come forward. The suspect is described by the police as a white man with blonde stubble who spoke with a Scottish accent. He was dressed in a black hoodie with a zip, khaki trousers, Nike trainers, and a black balaclava. The man reportedly led the girl through various streets including South St David Street, St Andrew Square, and Queen Street before reaching York Place where the assault took place. After the incident, he departed in the direction of Dublin Street.
