Irish rap group Kneecap has made the decision to withdraw from the TRNSMT music festival in Glasgow due to concerns raised by the police regarding safety. Police Scotland stated last week that allowing the trio to perform at Glasgow Green on 11 July would necessitate “a significant policing operation.” This move comes after a member of the Irish language group was charged with a terror offence for allegedly displaying a flag in support of the proscribed organization Hezbollah at a London gig.

Kill your local MP.” Despite this setback, Kneecap is still set to perform at the upcoming Glastonbury festival, where they are scheduled to appear on the lineup for Saturday, 28 June.
In response to the TRNSMT cancellation, Kneecap released a statement announcing a new show at Glasgow’s O2 Academy on Tuesday, 8 July, as a gesture to fans who were looking forward to their performance. The group extended their apologies to the thousands of people who had already purchased tickets, flights, and accommodations to see them play at the festival. Furthermore, TRNSMT promoters DF Concerts expressed their gratitude to fans for their understanding regarding the situation.
Member of Kneecap, Liam Óg Ó hAnnaidh, who goes by the stage name Mo Chara, has been charged by the Metropolitan Police following an incident at the O2 Forum in Kentish Town, London, on 21 November 2024. He is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 18 June. The band’s controversial remarks have also drawn criticism from Scotland’s First Minister John Swinney, who supported calls for their removal from the TRNSMT lineup. Kneecap has since issued apologies to the families of murdered MPs Sir David Amess and Jo Cox, seeking to make amends for their previous inflammatory statements
