A man from Northern Ireland, Jack Trotter, is currently receiving treatment in a hospital after being hit by a car during a Liverpool Football Club parade. The incident occurred on Water Street in Liverpool, where Jack Trotter and his girlfriend, Abbie Gallagher, were struck by a car driving into fans at around 18:00 BST on Monday. Thousands of Liverpool FC fans had gathered in the city center for the Premier League victory parade at the time of the accident. Mr. Trotter, speaking from the hospital to BBC News NI, expressed being in “absolute agony” following the collision. He and his girlfriend had travelled to the parade with friends from Northern Ireland.

Merseyside Police have reported that a 53-year-old British man has been arrested in connection to the incident. Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims clarified that the authorities are not treating the incident as an act of terrorism. Additionally, David Kitchen from the North West Ambulance Service stated that 27 individuals were taken to hospitals across Liverpool following the incident, including four children. Fortunately, a paramedic on a bike was also involved in the incident but sustained non-serious injuries.

In the aftermath of the incident, Liverpool fans who had traveled for the celebrations shared their disappointment. One fan, Daniel Baxter, described the mood as “a bit of a let down” after what was supposed to be a day of jubilation. Prior to the incident, the atmosphere was filled with happiness and celebration, with everyone enjoying the moment. However, once news of what had occurred spread, there was a sense of panic among the crowd as they tried to understand the situation and its implications. Despite the tragic turn of events, the streets were cordoned off as authorities dealt with the aftermath.

Stephen Boyd, another attendee at the parade, recounted the incident as “scary” and highlighted that up until that point, the celebrations had been well attended and well behaved. He estimated that there were at least a million people on the streets before the incident occurred.
