A 17-year-old student from Royal Wootton Bassett in Wiltshire has achieved a remarkable feat by setting a new world record for solving a 12-sided version of the Rubik’s cube. Aidan Grainger completed the Megaminx puzzle in an incredible time of just 22.89 seconds during an event held in Weston-super-Mare on 18 May.
Reflecting on his achievement, Aidan expressed his joy at finally achieving his long-standing goal of securing a world record. He told the BBC, “For the last few years my biggest goal has been to get a world record and I was so happy to get it.” This accomplishment adds to his impressive track record, having already become the national and European record holder back in January 2024.
Having solidified his reputation as a top Rubik’s cube solver, Aidan is now gearing up to represent the UK at the upcoming World Championships taking place in Seattle in June. His dedication and skill have not only earned him recognition within the UK and Europe but have also positioned him as a formidable competitor on the global stage
