Government warns of fines of up to £600 for vape users ahead of next week’s ban

With the UK ban on disposable vapes set to take effect on June 1, the government is warning individuals about the steep fines they could face for improper disposal of their used e-cigarettes. According to the UK Government’s Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) guidance, households will be fined £600 for failing to comply with their waste duty of care, a significant increase from the current £400 fine.

Many people are unaware that vapes cannot simply be thrown into regular household bins, as they are classified as WEEE and require specific disposal methods to prevent potential hazards. Improperly disposed vapes can lead to fires in waste management facilities and pose risks to workers and the public.

Ahead of the ban, online vape retailer Haypp has reported that 82% of vape users are planning to stockpile supplies, with a notable increase in sales observed in the past month. The Vape Club has seen a surge in purchases, with sales jumping by 50-100% in certain cases.

Individuals caught improperly disposing of vapes will face fines, while retailers selling disposable vapes post-ban will be fined £200 for the first offense. Continued violation of the ban could result in unlimited fines, criminal records, and even jail time for both individuals and businesses
