Brent fire: Names of four people who died released by police

Following a devastating house fire in Stonebridge, Brent, a mother and her three children have tragically lost their lives. The victims have been identified as Nusrat Usman, 43, her daughter Maryam Mikaiel, 15, and her two sons Musa Usman, eight, and Raees Usman, four. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Although the family members were not the only individuals affected by the fire, as a 13-year-old girl is currently in critical condition in the hospital. Additionally, a woman in her 70s has been discharged after receiving treatment. Authorities have arrested a 41-year-old man outside the property on suspicion of murder. He has been released on bail and detained under the Mental Health Act, according to the Met.

Emergency services responded to the fire at Tillett Close around 01:20 BST on Saturday, where two terraced three-storey homes were engulfed in flames. Approximately 70 firefighters from different stations were dispatched to the scene to tackle the blaze. Tributes in the form of flowers and teddy bears were left near the properties as a gesture of support and mourning.

Superintendent Steve Allen expressed condolences to those impacted by the tragic incident and announced that additional officers would be deployed to assist with the ongoing complex investigation. The London Fire Brigade received numerous calls reporting the fire, and Assistant Commissioner Keeley Foster described the situation as extremely tragic.
