During the inquest hearing for Jay Slater, previously unseen videos were shared that shed light on his final hours. The 19-year-old had sent Snapchat videos to friends before he tragically passed away. Slater was discovered dead after reportedly falling into a ravine following his disappearance in Playa de las Americas in Tenerife on June 17, 2024.
His mother’s plea during the adjourned inquest requested the search for essential witnesses to the events leading up to his death on the Spanish island, where he was attending a music festival. Among the footage released during the hearing were clips taken by Slater in a car, as well as one capturing the mountainous terrain in the early hours of June 17.
One of the videos showcased Slater in a car on his way to an AirBnB in a remote village called Masca, located approximately 22 miles away from his accommodation. Another clip displayed a view of the mountains, sent by Slater to his friend Joshua Forshaw, indicating it was captured between 05:50 and 07:20 that day.
The apprentice bricklayer from Oswaldtwistle, Lancashire, was found by Spanish authorities in a secluded national park on July 15. His injuries were consistent with a fall from a height, with toxicology reports revealing his consumption of drugs and alcohol. Messages from Slater indicated the presence of MDMA, cocaine, and ketamine in his system at the time of his death, although the timeframe of their ingestion remained unclear.
