City partners in call for a safe parade for all

Liverpool FC, alongside Liverpool City Council, Merseyside Police, and Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, are urging supporters to ensure a safe and secure environment during the upcoming trophy parade while also safeguarding children from the dangers of pyrotechnics. The Liverpool victory parade is scheduled to take place on Monday, May 26, starting at 2:30 pm and following a similar route to the previous parade in 2022.

Reports indicate a rise in the use of pyrotechnics, including flares, smoke bombs, and fireworks in recent weeks. Following the match against Spurs, which secured the Reds’ 20th league title, there were nearly 50 instances of burns reported outside Anfield Stadium, with the youngest victim being a three-year-old child treated for burns at Alder Hey’s Emergency Department.

Nathan Askew, Chief Nurse at Alder Hey Children’s NHS Foundation Trust, emphasized the dangers associated with pyrotechnics, highlighting the potential for serious injuries such as severe burns, respiratory problems, and damage to various body parts. The misuse of pyrotechnics can lead to distressing outcomes for children who may not comprehend the risks involved, urging all attendees to prioritize safety during the celebratory event.

The collaborative effort between local authorities, law enforcement, and health organizations aims to promote a hazard-free parade for fans of all ages. Merseyside Police Chief Inspector Chris Barnes echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the importance of eliminating the reckless use of pyrotechnics to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all participants. Measures are being put in place to address concerns related to visibility and respiratory health during the parade, encouraging a memorable and safe celebration of Liverpool FC’s success
