Irvine Welsh is releasing a disco album to accompany his new Trainspotting sequel

Irvine Welsh is set to debut his inaugural album this summer, a disco compilation intended to complement his latest book, Men In Love, a direct follow-up to Trainspotting. The Scottish writer, screenwriter, and playwright took charge of curating and penning the lyrics for the 10-track album, with The Sci-Fi Soul Orchestra handling the music composition and production. The album is scheduled for release through Port Sunshine Recordings and the first single, ‘A Man in Love with Love’, is already available, blending soulful vocals with lively disco elements and rhythm.

Both the album and the novel, both titled Men In Love, are slated for release on July 24. The narrative revisits the iconic characters initially introduced in Welsh’s debut novel, Trainspotting, in 1993, picking up the story immediately after the events of the first book, as opposed to the later sequel, Porno, set a decade ahead, or Skagboys, which is a prequel. Describing the setting in the late 1980s, during the closing years of Thatcher’s Britain, the characters anticipate a new era filled with hope, love, and clubbing adventures.

Welsh’s album serves as a sonic companion to this narrative, emphasizing the importance of music in transcending the distractions of the modern world and expressing our enduring capacity for love and joy through dance. The author will also be embarking on a promotional tour across England and Scotland in July, with tickets available for purchase. The album and novel can be pre-ordered through respective links for those eager to immerse themselves in Welsh’s latest creative endeavors
