Liverpool City Council is seeking dynamic proposals in various art forms for its annual Black History Month program. This initiative, which runs throughout October, aims to recognize and celebrate the contributions and achievements of individuals with African or Caribbean backgrounds who may have been overlooked or misrepresented. The Culture Liverpool team is calling upon creatives based in Liverpool or those experienced in working with the local Black diasporas to submit innovative ideas for artistic projects, events, or activities aligned with the national theme of “Standing Firm in Power & Pride.”
Thanks to funding from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund, a total of £12,000 is available for up to five creative grant commissions. While the proposed activities should occur in October, community engagement or educational initiatives can take place before then. Last year’s successful commissions included projects like Fixing Crowns by Nikki Blaze of Liverpool Hip Hop Fest, in collaboration with Silk Photography, and Roots & Routes by Ngugan Adamu of iWoman Academy CIC. Submissions are encouraged from Liverpool-based artists, organizations working with local communities, freelance artists, and small collectives. For more information and to apply, visit the Culture Liverpool website before the deadline on Wednesday, June 11th.
