Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora died in the Lockerbie bombing
Jim Swire, whose daughter Flora died in the attack, says he never gave up on the search for the truth or justice.
“We wanted to know why the plane came down and who did it, and this is being covered up by governments,” he says. “Why would they do that? We know that they did it, so this is almost incomprehensible.”
Swire, portrayed by Peter Mullan, tells the BBC this drama introduces new generations to the unsolved mystery and keeps the urgency for closure alive.
“It’s a good thing that people now have available something that’s talked and thought about now where they weren’t, but once,” he tells BBC News.
While he hopes they will learn from his generation, Swire knows the show is a chance for the younger audience “to draw their own conclusions”.
He hopes they “might be inspired by what we did”, as the documentary features previously unheard testimonies from those on the ground in Lockerbie and people tied to the US defence and intelligence agencies.
Roger Park says the series shows “individuals and families can accomplish big things”.
“We always think of people as a number, rather than realising each is an individual – a loss creates a ripple effect,” she says.
As Weipz notes: “You have to take a tragedy and turn it into something that’s meaningful.”
