Police arrest six men in Glasgow-Edinburgh gangland feud dawn raids

Police in Glasgow have taken six men into custody following early-morning raids linked to an ongoing gang feud. The arrests were made by officers from the Organised Crime and Counter Terrorism Unit, in conjunction with firearms officers, at six properties across Glasgow. Some of the locations where the raids took place include Barlanark, Maryhill, Hamiltonhill, Milton of Campsie, and Wishaw. These raids come in the wake of numerous assaults, shootings, and firebombing incidents in both Glasgow and Edinburgh since March, resulting in a total of 32 arrests.

Before the raids commenced, a large number of armed officers, detectives, and uniformed police gathered at Glasgow’s Baird Street station at 04:00 for a briefing. The presence of Det Chief Constable Jane Connors, one of Police Scotland’s highest-ranking officers, underscores the significance of these operations. At a property in Barlanark, armed officers forcibly entered an end terrace house around 05:00 by smashing through a ground floor window. The ensuing arrests led to two men, aged 31 and 26, being taken into custody for conspiracy to murder and directing serious and organized crime.

In addition to the arrests made in Barlanark, further individuals were apprehended in the remaining raids. Among them was a 36-year-old man implicated in conspiracy to murder, a 26-year-old man arrested for drug offenses, a 57-year-old man taken into custody for proceeds of crime offenses, and a 42-year-old man arrested in Wishaw regarding involvement in serious and organized crime. During the operations, law enforcement also seized a quantity of class B drugs and £46,000 in cash. Det Ch Sup David Ferry commended the efforts of his team in targeting those responsible for the recent spate of attacks, emphasizing that violence will not be tolerated until justice is served.

The gang feud that led to these arrests traces back to March, with the first incident being a car set on fire in Edinburgh’s Parrotshot area. Subsequent targets included a beauty salon in Leith, a garage in Portobello, two properties in Niddrie and Pilton where shots were reportedly fired, and further firebomb attacks on properties in Niddrie and Robroyston. Additional targets encompassed a carpet business in Bishopbriggs, a commercial premises in Kirkintilloch, as well as homes in Glasgow and Stepps. In April, a 72-year-old woman and a 12-year-old boy were assaulted at a residence in Egilsay Crescent in Milton, Glasgow
