'Catfish' offender Max Hollingsbee sentenced for offences against girls

A young man from County Armagh, Max Hollingsbee, has been given a five-year and two-month prison sentence for various online sexual crimes involving teenage girls. The sentencing occurred on Friday, with Hollingsbee being charged with offenses aimed at 14 girls and young women. This criminal behavior falls under the category of online catfishing, where individuals use fake identities to manipulate and exploit others, including engaging in “sextortion.”

Hollingsbee admitted guilt to 42 charges spread across two indictments, indicating a comprehensive list of his wrongdoings, according to prosecutors. These charges encompassed activities such as coercing minors under 16 into sexual acts, possession of indecent images, blackmail, intimidation attempts, unauthorized access to online material, sexual communication with minors, and distribution of indecent pictures of minors. The court ordered that half of his sentence be served behind bars, with the remaining portion under supervision.
