£9.99Cunard Cruise Line will be celebrating its 185th anniversary in Liverpool on May 27th, with a special event led by Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal. The festivities will kick off the day before with the arrival of Cunard’s newest ship, Queen Anne, in the Mersey. This marks a significant milestone for the cruise line, as it coincides almost a year after Queen Anne’s naming ceremony in Liverpool, which is considered Cunard’s spiritual home.
The Princess Royal will embark on a royal tour of Queen Anne, accompanied by a welcome from the British Army Band Catterick. The day will be filled with celebrations, as Her Royal Highness commemorates Cunard’s 185 years of maritime history, its close ties to Liverpool, and the leadership of Queen Anne’s Captains, Dave Hudson and Inger Thorhauge. Additionally, an official opening of the 185th ‘Sea of Glamour’ exhibition will take place at The Royal Liver Building, featuring Queen Anne’s Icons – five remarkable Liverpudlian women selected to represent the city.
Katie McAlister, President of Cunard, expressed the company’s honor in hosting Her Royal Highness for this momentous occasion. The Sea of Glamour Exhibition will be open to the public at The Royal Liver Building from May 28th to June 17th, before embarking on a global journey aboard Cunard ships. The exhibition will showcase 185 photos from the Cunard archives, featuring Hollywood icons, musicians, politicians, and royalty, alongside new images curated from the public, highlighting iconic moments in transatlantic travel over the past two centuries.
British photographer and filmmaker Mary McCartney will capture the final photograph for the exhibition on May 27th, portraying Queen Anne’s Icons in Liverpool on the opening day. This image aims to offer a fresh perspective on Cunard’s longstanding relationship with Liverpool. The exhibition will also feature an immersive audio storytelling experience, providing visitors with a glimpse into life onboard Cunard ships through the narratives of past and present guests. Additionally, a sculptural installation titled Sails of History will be on display, with suspended sails serving as dynamic canvases for the exhibition’s images
