Man caught at Ibiza airport with 163,000 ecstasy pills in his luggage

A young man from the Netherlands, aged 22, was apprehended at Ibiza airport for trying to smuggle more than 160,000 ecstasy pills onto the island within his luggage. The vibrant pink pills were not hidden in any way and were neatly packed in clear plastic bags inside two suitcases that were overflowing with them. The man managed to evade customs in his home country but was caught by police upon arrival in Ibiza, as reported by Periódico de Ibiza. His solo travel with two heavy suitcases raised suspicion among authorities.

Authorities uncovered approximately 50kg of pills, totaling an estimated 163,000 pills. While most were believed to be ecstasy, some were identified as 2CB. The estimated street value of the pills ranges from €1.3 million to €3 million if sold at prices ranging from €8 to €18, as per RTL News. According to RTL’s report, the man could face a prison sentence ranging from three to six years, which could be extended to a maximum of nine years if it is revealed that he was part of a larger drug trafficking organization.

In a previous drug bust in Ibiza, over a million ecstasy pills were seized, marking it as the largest ecstasy-related operation in Spanish history. The seizure included 1,071,327 pills valued at over €25 million, along with more than 700 kilograms of various substances such as ketamine, pink cocaine, hashish, MDMA, and cannabis. The man’s fate and potential charges will be determined as the investigation progresses. Gemma Ross serves as Mixmag’s Associate Digital Editor, and you can follow her updates on Twitter
