The upcoming DP World Tour event at Donald Trump’s Aberdeenshire golf course marks a significant moment as the Scottish Championship returns to the circuit from 7-10 August. This will be the first time the event will be held at the Trump International course, located in the Menie area, 10 miles north of Aberdeen. The tournament previously took place in October 2020 at Fairmont St Andrews, stepping in to replace the cancelled Czech Masters.
The Trump International course, owned by the president of the United States, has established itself as one of the top modern links courses in the UK since its opening in 2012. Guy Kinnings, CEO of the DP World Tour, expressed confidence in the venue, stating, “Trump International Golf Links Scotland promises to be an excellent venue for the return of the Scottish Championship.”

President Trump, who handed control of his Scottish golf courses to his sons upon taking office in 2017 while retaining a financial interest, has expressed interest in hosting the 2028 Open Championship at Turnberry, another course he owns. The UK government has left the decision to the R&A, organizers of the major, which last took place at Turnberry in 2009.
Despite discussions between White House officials and Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer about the possibility of the Open returning to Turnberry, logistical challenges present a potential obstacle regardless of ownership.
