Man on terror offence charge after Israel embassy arrest

A man has been charged with a terrorism offense for allegedly trying to break into the Israeli embassy in west London armed with a knife on Monday. Abdullah Sabah Albadri, 33, who has no fixed address, faces charges of preparing terrorist acts and two counts of possessing a bladed article, as announced by the Metropolitan Police.

Appearing before Westminster Magistrates’ Court, Albadri was remanded in custody until 7 May. Israel’s foreign ministry confirmed that all staff at the Kensington embassy were unharmed, with no damage reported to the building. The Israeli embassy expressed gratitude to the officers for their prompt response and continuous efforts to safeguard the premises.

Commander Dominic Murphy, who heads the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, stated that there are no other suspects being pursued in connection with the incident. He emphasized that there is no perceived broader threat to the public. Close communication is being maintained with those stationed at the Embassy of Israel, recognizing the concerns that may arise from the charges.

The arrest occurred around 6:00 BST on Monday, with officers from the Met’s Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command spotting a man attempting to breach the embassy grounds by scaling a 2.5-meter (8ft) fence. The suspect was prevented from gaining access and was initially detained on suspicion of various offenses such as trespassing on a designated area and possession of an offensive weapon.
