£10.99Plans are underway for significant upgrades to multiple children’s playgrounds in Liverpool pending approval at an upcoming meeting of the city council’s cabinet. A proposal is on the table outlining a comprehensive program of enhancements worth up to £683,000 that will see the installation of new equipment in the playgrounds.
The plan, if given the green light, will involve improving the infrastructure at playgrounds located in various areas including Walton Hall Park, Doric Park in Old Swan, Calderstones Park, Berkley Park in Toxteth, Lyon Street Park in Garston, Wavertree Botanic Park, and Lower Breck Recreation Area in Tuebrook. Each park is slated to receive at least £58,000 worth of upgrades, with the works set to commence in July.
Funding for the project will primarily come from Section 106 contributions, which are financial contributions made by private developers to aid the Council in carrying out improvements that benefit the wider community. Some additional funding for the upgrades at Lower Breck Recreation Area will also come from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF).
This initiative follows the recent completion of Liverpool’s fully accessible play area in Croxteth Park. Feedback on proposed designs has been gathered from local residents after being submitted by potential contractors. The next steps involve the Cabinet endorsing a preferred contractor for each site. Further refurbishments are planned for seven other playgrounds following the completion of the initial works, with all parks in Liverpool being prioritized for any potential future renovations
