Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has extended his well wishes to two fathers who tragically lost their daughters in the Southport attack as they gear up to participate in the London Marathon. Sergio Aguiar and David Stancombe will be taking on the marathon to raise funds for projects established in memory of their late daughters. The victims, Alice Aguiar, aged nine, Elsie Dot Stancombe, aged seven, and Bebe King, aged six, lost their lives in July while attending a Taylor Swift-themed dance workshop.
Expressing his gratitude for the PM’s message, Mr. Aguiar mentioned on BBC Breakfast, “We want to say thank you for all the support.” Meanwhile, Mr. Stancombe shared, “Even now it still blows me away that so many people know about it and you’re getting messages from the prime minister.” He further added, “I would love people to know I’ve seen their message, but I have genuinely read so many of them. It’s amazing.”
In a heartfelt video message delivered to the families ahead of the marathon, Sir Keir expressed his support, stating, “David and Sergio, I want to wish you the very best of luck in the London Marathon this weekend. I know how much it means to you and your families…This is an incredible way to honor the memory of your precious daughters and the entire nation is in awe of your courage and your resilience.” Both Mr. Stancombe and Sergio Aguiar will be running with the support of Bebe’s parents, Lauren and Ben King, who will be cheering them on from the sidelines.
Mr. Stancombe’s fundraising efforts are dedicated to Elsie’s Story, a charitable trust that provides grants to help young individuals and support the Southport community. Jenni Stancombe, Elsie’s mother, shared on BBC Breakfast that even the Prince and Princess of Wales contributed to Elsie’s Story and sent a special message to the family prior to the race. Additionally, running alongside Mr. Aguiar will be Jinnie Payne, the headteacher of Churchtown Primary School, where Alice and Bebe were students, and who also received support from Prince William and Catherine for the school’s playground fund
