The event, believed to have attracted approximately 2,500 attendees, was held in Charlton Forest just north of Chichester on Saturday, April 19th. People from different parts of the UK flocked to the forest rave, turning it into a massive gathering.
Reports of disturbances in the area reached the authorities around 10 PM, prompting a police response that led to the closure of nearby roads. Police officers confiscated music equipment like speakers, sound systems, and stages used at the event. Sussex Police disclosed that 25 individuals were arrested in connection to the illegal gathering, with 19 facing suspicions of drug-driving. Other arrests were made for offenses such as causing public disturbances and possessing Class A and B substances.
The majority of those arrested, numbering 22, had journeyed from beyond Sussex, hailing from locations like Norfolk, Devon, Lincoln, and Wiltshire. Superintendent Shane Baker commented on the swift response of law enforcement to locate the woodland site and monitor the unauthorized event. Prioritizing community safety, officers aimed to engage with the event organizers and ensure a secure and effective closure of the rave.
Following the Chichester Police’s update on the unlicensed party shared on Facebook, locals chimed in with mixed sentiments. One individual sarcastically praised the alleged organizational skills required to draw a crowd of 3,000 people, expressing disappointment that the event was disrupted.
