Raymond McCourt: Murderer missing from prison near Dundee

Raymond McCourt, a convicted murderer, has gone missing from an open prison located near Dundee, Scotland. HMP Castle Huntly notified the authorities of McCourt’s disappearance on Tuesday evening. Described as having “reduced mobility”, police are currently on the lookout for him and have advised the public to avoid approaching him.

McCourt, now 59 years old, was handed a life sentence back in 1993 for the murder of shopkeeper Khalid Mahmood, as well as for injuring a woman and a police officer. Standing tall at 6ft2in with a stocky build and grey hair, McCourt was last spotted donning a long black trench coat, grey trousers, a waistcoat, blue shirt, brown shoes, and a red and white tie. Police Scotland has mentioned that he tends to use public transport, often making connections to Edinburgh and Glasgow.

In 2015, McCourt was released from prison but found himself back behind bars after being convicted of theft. Castle Huntly stands out as Scotland’s sole open prison, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding McCourt’s disappearance and whether he was out on license at the time. Authorities have called for any sightings or information regarding McCourt to be reported through the number 101, quoting reference number 2857. Additionally, anonymous tips can be shared with the charity Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111
